NBC CT and Telemundo Connecticut are proud to launch a virtual food drive, "Feeding Our Families," in partnership with Comcast, to support Foodshare and the CT Food Bank during these times of high food insecurity in our state.
Foodshare and the CT Food Bank, which help provide to those in need across our state, are experiencing an unprecedented strain on resources as the demand for food increases day-by-day.
Recent survey results conducted by Foodshare at their emergency drive-thru food distributions show that 71-percent of households attending these distributions have lost their jobs or had their hours cut due to COVID-19.

Foodshare has been spending in excess of $50,000 per week to provide food to communities.
“During these unprecedented times, NBC Connecticut and Telemundo Connecticut, along with our partners, have a common goal, which is to connect our communities with the food provisions and resources they urgently need.,” said Diane Hannes, president and general manager of NBC Connecticut and Telemundo Connecticut.“ Ending hunger is a cause very near to our heart, and now more than ever, we ask our viewers to help us in making sure that our neighbors, friends, and families don't go hungry. Together we can continue to build a healthier community!”
“The lines at our drive-thru distribution continue to increase with no decline in sight. The Greater Hartford community needs our support, and we are grateful to NBC CT and Telemundo CT for launching the Feeding our Families virtual food drive. The financial support and awareness will help us continue to provide food to our neighbors, ensuring that no one goes hungry.” said Monica Obrebski, Director of External Relations of Foodshare.
“Programs across our network have seen visits increase as much as 50%,” said Connecticut Food Bank spokesperson Paul Shipman. “Donations from grocers and distributors are down, as consumer demand has grown, so we are purchasing more food than ever before to fill that gap. The donations from the Feeding Our Families drive will go a long way in helping us to provide food to our neighbors who are struggling.”
